Typical ranges are $1–$4 per square foot or $50–$150 per room. Stairs are usually $2–$5 per step or $30–$80 per flight, and minimum job charges vary by company.

Is rug cleaning the same as rug washing?

No. Surface cleaning happens where the rug lies and treats the top of the pile. Washing means the rug is dusted, fully immersed at a plant, rinsed and dried under controlled conditions. That difference explains most of the gap between two quotes.

Is there a minimum charge for a small rug?

Usually. Most NYC companies set a pickup minimum of $150–$250, so a 3×5 or 4×6 rug tends to cost the minimum rather than its square footage. Sending several rugs together is the easiest way to get value from one minimum.

How often should I have my rug professionally cleaned?

An ordinary household rug usually needs professional cleaning every 3–5 years. Homes with pets, young children or heavy use may need it every 1–2 years, and low-traffic or shoes-off rooms every 5 years or more.

What is the difference between carpet cleaning and rug cleaning?
